Hairapy and "The Dress"

I got my hair done today, and I must say I love it!!!♥ I'm so sad to be leaving my fabulous hair dresser behind here in Cali! :( We have so many hair memories together!! Rosa did my hair for my wedding and has been doing it ever since. Now I'm gonna have to start all over and find someone new. Does anybody in the Hampton Roads area know of a good and affordable hair dresser? If so please leave your suggestions. :) I'm also worrying about what all that Virginia humidity is gonna do to my hair, its natuarlly curly/wavy (ewwww!) and in Cali its not such a big deal cause its so dry, but I know my hair is gonna be frizz central once I hit VA!!! :( Hopefully I can find some good styling products to keep the frizz at bay and hold my curl, cause I don't wanna look horrible when my husband comes sailing in to port. Do you ladies who deal with the humidity have any suggestions for me?

On another note, remember this dress? The dress I'm wearing to my hubby's homecoming ceremony...

Well I got it in the mail a few weeks ago and it was a little too big on the sides (but the length was perfect, which was weird, cause I'm short) so I had to go take it to be tailored today. Damn this deployment, can you believe I lost about 4 pounds over the past 5 months? That seriously can not be healthy cause I'm already a twig!! Anyway, its only gonna cost me $15 so I guess thats not too bad.

I also ended up getting these shoes to go with the dress, but I'm worried that my feet are gonna be killing me if we end up having to wait a few hours. At least I am to the point where I can see a light at the end of the tunnel and my husband will be home and in my arms soon enough!! :) I'm sure he wouldn't care if I showed up in a potato sack dress, but I guess as a woman I still wanna look gorgeous for my man!! ;)

  1. Your hair looks really good!

I have really thick hair, and it is always humid here. I went to the salon and got the Peter Coppola Keratin Treatment. It was amazing. My hair never frizzed, and I hardly ever had to flat iron it anymore. It lasts about five months, but it can be rather expensive. It's around $350 :(

  3. I go to Ron Paul Salon, and love them (any stylist there). There's one in Chesapeake at Greenbrier and one way out in VB somewheres. I also get my eyebrows done there (I'm Arabic, so it is a constant pain!). As for humidity..ugh, good luck. I'm from GA originally so I'm just used to it and let mine go nuts.

Yes, those shoes are gonna kill you. DH is on a sub (which is small), and it took an hour, possibly more, from the time the boat was mooring until he actually came off of it. Bring some flip flops to hang around in, then change toward the end perhaps?

  4. Girl, I know! I think it's worth trying to look good because in the end it makes you FEEL good. When you feel good about yourself, you look like a million bucks.

That said, if you don't wear heels like that very often, those are going to kill your feet. Be practical and bring a pair of sandals to wear to/from and if your feet hurt you can even carry them in your purse and slip the heels on right before you see him. :)

  6. Love the hair! I have found that the right straightner really helps too. I have crazy curly hair that I wear straight and curly and I use Paul Mitchell's straight line. Gloss drops and super skinny work amazing!

I would start wearing the shoes in now (great advice that I never take) and I agree with the other ladies, bring a big bad and toss some thongs in there so you have something comfy for your feet. YAY!!!! Glad this is almost over for you!

  7. Gosh, I love your bangs, I wish I could pull them off like you can. To combat some frizz (because I definately have the same problem) I love Garnier Fructis Anti-Frizz Serum. It is soo good, and smells yummy!

  9. Thanks everyone!! I went a little shorter on the bangs cause it will be a few weeks before I actually see my hubbs and I didn't want them to be too long and in my face by then. And thank you all for the hair suggestions, I really need to find a good product or else I'm gonna look like the queen of Frizz City!! ;) I also bought some white wedges with a low heel, so i think I might wear those while I'm waiting and then slip on my gorgeous heels right before I see my Hubby. I'm so excited and i can't wait!!! :)

  11. Gah the dress and shoes are amazing!! :) You're going to look gorgeous when hubby comes home.

My hair is thick and curly too (well, was haha) but I always used herbal essences mousse and it calmed right down in the ridiculous ga humidity. Hope you find something good!

  13. You are going to look so beautiful!!! I am bummed you had to get the dress altered, but I cant wait to see it! Okay so the humidity...SUCKS! I have the WORST frizz, but guess what I do that works, believe me I have the frizziest thickest curliest hair in the world, i am not just one of those girls that say it. A straightener that is really thin but gets to about 450 degrees, you can curl your hair with it or straighten...totally works, i promise by it! I'll show you one day!

  15. Your hair looks great! We live in southern IL and it's soooo humid here. I use a spray wax in my hair year round to keep it from getting frizzy. I think the one I am using right now is Paul Mitchell. It does wonders.

Glad to hear homecoming is right around the corner for you. You are going to look amazing.

  18. I love your hair! I know that I'm like the millionth person to say it but it looks cute :D I have super curly/frizzy hair too....which I usually straighten the crap out of, but I recently tried Hair Milk by Carol's Daughter that I found wandering Sephora one day. The Sailor usually doesn't like my hair curly, but he said that he was digging the curls that came from the "hair crack" lol. It was like 20 bucks for a bottle that you use a dime amount at a time. Recently I was out on the bay with the humidity and wind and my curls were intact and normal looking.....to say that I'm in love with this stuff is an understatement! Good luck with your drive cross country!
